Our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 13th in the afternoon. (We should have lots of time with 2 hour church! wink wink) Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the primary manual.
If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.
January 14 - January 20
Luke 2; Matthew 2
“We Have Come to Worship Him”
Weekly Preparation:
(This list includes all the activities for all of the lesson ideas this week so it may include things you aren't planning to use. Look ahead through the lessons and plan for the ones you want to do.)
Print off the Simply Family Home Evening lesson plan for this week. Print out the primary handout for this week, if you have a Nativity scene leave it out, don't pack it away yet. Haha! Print out the Nativity Bingo linked on our activity ideas page. We found it on One Creative Mommy and trust me. It's soooooo cute! Make sure you have something like pennies to use as markers. New Testament Coloring Book Page for Luke 2.

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
Preparation: Get pennies to use for the Bingo game, have big popsicle sticks and tape for the primary handout, nativity set.
Lesson:
Watch the videos, either New Testament Stories or Bible Videos; read the scripture references or use a mix of both.New Testament Stories
Chapter 5: Jesus Christ is Born
Bible Video
The First Christmas Spirit
Shepherds Learn of the Birth of Christ
Scripture Reference
Luke 2:1-14
Get out the Nativity set and use it to tell the story of Jesus' birth.
Activity Ideas:
These are really inexpensive from the Distribution Center. It was cheaper to buy one for each kid then it was to photo copy them. When we use one I just remove the page from the book and put it in the lesson folder. If the back has something that works with another lesson that we haven't gotten to yet then I take them and put them in that lesson's folder once the kids are done with them.
Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:
Jesus Was Once a Child Like Me
Preparation: Get out the kids' baby pictures.
Scriptures: Luke 2:40, 52
Lesson:
Take out the kids' baby pictures. Read the scripture passages in Luke and talk about how Jesus had to grow up and learn just like they do.
