Here is the second lesson for New Testament 2019 Come, Follow Me: "Be it Unto Me According to Thy Word." We will be studying Matthew 1; Luke 1 from January 7-13. We are so excited, this week we get to talk about prayer. As a parent I (BreeAnna) plan to make a focused effort myself to improve MY prayers in both consistency and sincerity. I find that sometimes I get lazy and it's hard to stay focused at the end of the day. Anyone else? When talking to my kids we are going to work on the proper order of prayer. We're excited to hear your ideas and what is working for you. Please share them with us!

Our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 6th in the afternoon. (We should have lots of time with 2 hour church! wink wink) Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the primary manual. This week the handout from Come, Follow Me - For Primary is used in the actual lesson, so we didn't use that as an activity idea this week.

One of the lesson ideas for this week is to talk about family history. We decided it would be fun to get together with our husband's parents, (our husbands are brothers) and have them tell us stories about their youth and their parents (our children's great-grandparents) while we make and eat a dinner that our husbands enjoyed as kids. If you have family close by it could be a fun addition to your week as well.

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Scriptures: (Luke 1:31-35)
Lesson:
Jesus Christ is the son of Heavenly Father and Mary.
Read Luke 1:30-35
Ask the kids who their mom is. Ask the kids who their dad is. Ask them about their grandparents. Who's mom and dad are they? Write all of this down on the pedigree chart.
Pull out the pedigree chart for Jesus. Ask the kids who Jesus' mom is. Ask the kids who Jesus' dad is. Talk about how Joseph raised Jesus on earth, but Jesus is the only person to ever be born on this earth whose real dad is Heavenly Father.
Write the names in on Jesus' pedigree chart and compare it to the other kids' to show them what this means.

    1. Oh that is such a sweet idea! We have a new post go up every Sunday and we keep the blog updated with the current week’s lesson plus the next 3. So if you were staying that far ahead it should be enough time to mail them.
