The week 7 lesson for New Testament 2019 Come, Follow Me is "Ye Must Be Born Again." We will be studying John 2-4. I am really excited about this lesson. We just talked about why Jesus was baptized a couple weeks ago but in this lesson we get to discuss why it is so important for US to be baptized as we read about Jesus explaining it to Nicodemus. This lesson is packed full! We get to discuss the first miracle of Jesus, the Samaritan Woman at the well and God's gift to the world. We're excited to hear your ideas on how you will approach this week and how Simply Family Home Evening is most useful in your families!

Our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 10th in the afternoon. (Also - how AWESOME is our 2 hour block?! RIGHT?) Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the primary manual.

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
I Need to be Baptized and Confirmed to Return to Live With Heavenly Father Again
Preparation: Have a cup of flour or something else to get kids hands "dirty" with. Use the Gospel Art Book if you have one or follow the link we have in the lesson. Use a coloring page or other picture to help the kids learn the Fourth Article of Faith. Primary handout for this week.
Lesson:
Watch the videos, either New Testament Stories or Bible Videos; read the scripture references or use a mix of both.
New Testament Stories
Chapter 10: Jesus is Baptized
Bible Video
The Baptism of Jesus
Jesus Teaches of Being Born Again
Scripture Reference
     John 3:1-10
Talk about baptism. What is baptism? Why do we need to be baptized? What happens when we are baptized?
Take the flour and pour it over their hands.

Can they get it all off on their own? Even if they rub it? What about when it is washed off? How easily does it come off now?

Use the Gospel Art Book pg 104 "Girl Getting Baptized" and explain that the flour represents our sins. They are washed away when we are baptized and we are clean again.
Talk about and memorize the Fourth Article of Faith using some of the coloring pages or pictures you printed off.

Activity Ideas:
Primary handout for the week
There are a lot of baptism activities in the Friend this month. You can print off the activity pages for all your kids from the online version. We've linked to this month's issue on our Activity Page.
Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

My Heavenly Father loves me so He gave me a Savior
Preparation: Get out the hearts
Scriptures: John 3:16
Lesson:
Watch the videos, either New Testament Stories or Bible Videos; read the scripture references or use a mix of both.
Bible Video
For God So Loved the World
     A Gift to the World
Scripture Reference
     John 3:16
When you read the scripture, replace "the world" with each of your kids' names. Talk about what Heavenly Father did because He loves each one of us.
Take out the hearts and have them complete the sentences. How do they know that their parents on earth and that their Heavenly Father loves them?
Hang up the hearts around the house to remind them all week long that they are loved.

(Just a suggestion, if you are looking at this week ahead of time, this is the week of Valentines' Day and this would maybe be a fun lesson to do the day before or that night if you don't have plans to go out.)

I can honor my mother as Jesus did
Preparation: None for this lesson
