Come, Follow Me Feb 4-10: "The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me"

Welcome back to Simply Family Home Evening everyone! If you are new, we are so excited you have found us! How did last week go? Tell us, tell us! Haha! We have officially made it through an entire month! How is the Come, Follow Me curriculum changing things in your life and home? To be honest I'm still feeling mixed emotions of stress and excitement as we work to make this a habit in our home. I'm thankful to have these Simply Family Home Evening lesson plans that lay out a week at a time so that I don't have as much work week to week but that doesn't mean finding time is always easy. I can say my kids ask nightly if we can watch more movies and have another lesson. That makes me feel like most days we are doing something right with this!

We would so love to hear from you and know how Simply Family Home Evening is looking and working in your families and homes. Please let us know by commenting here or by using #simplyfamilyhomeevening on social media. You can also follow us on Facebook where we share extra links to articles we find about the lessons, talk about how it is going for us this week and gain ideas from what you are doing this week. You can also follow us and tag us on Instagram we would love to see your photos! On Instagram we share ideas from you all in our stories, we have inspirational quotes from the lesson and talk with and gain ideas from all of you! Come join us wherever you are!

Week six here we come! New Testament 2019 Come, Follow Me: "The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me" We will be studying Matthew 4 and Luke 4-5 from February 4-10. One of the main topics we have chosen to discuss this week is what a "Fisher of Men" is and what we can do to become one.

If you are on our email list or if you actually read through the label on the photo above you would get a good chuckle out of our first major oversight! Do you see it? We totally mislabeled the title of this lesson. Haha! I'm sure it won't be the last time we goof on something. Sort of what happens when you get tunnel vision working on a project. We must have been pretty excited about the fishers of men family home evening idea because this post went up weeks ago and it was literally Saturday night, February 2, when I flipped forward in my Come, Follow Me - for individuals and families manual and saw the title for this week's lesson. "WHAT?!!!???!? Is it like that on all of them?!??!?!" I seriously flipped to the same lesson in my Sunday School manual and then thought "well it must be the Primary one because that has been our main reference." Opened that one up completely expecting that for some reason they had titled the Primary lesson differently. (It could happen right???) Yeah..... It's totally us! So I fixed the title of the lesson where I could. It's very likely that there are pins floating around out there with the wrong title but hey, the date is right! And next week we'll be onto a new lesson so I'm going to try and tell that little perfectionist in my brain to shush it for this week and hope that you all will be understanding as well. :D

Our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 3rd in the afternoon. Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the Come, Follow Me - For Primary manual.

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

  1. I love these ideas. My oldest is two so finding activities that will keep his short attention span while getting the point across can be hard. So thank you for all the hard work you've put into these. Also the link to your overview of the layout of your lessons seems to be broken. At least for me it keeps showing me a centurylink search page. I tried searching your blog for the post but couldn't find it. I've been able to use your lessons fine but I thought it might help others if the link was fixed.

    1. Kim, thanks so much! I’m so glad to hear that you e been able to use and enjoy the lessons. ❤️ I’m sorry that the link isn’t working. But thank you so much for letting us know! It’s things like that that we probably won’t discover unless someone mentions it so THANKS! I will definitely look into it and get it fixed. Has it been a problem for you with every lesson or just this one?

    3. Thanks so much for letting us know! We’re looking into other options to make the pdf available. It’s badically just a watered down version that can be used for quick reference, of what is available here on the post so you aren’t missing anything for now. We’ll figure it out. I’m glad you found us! And thanks again!

  2. We won the fishing game and my boys loved it. I try to do at least 3 lessons a week and you have made it easy and fun. They also lived the scavenger hunt last week. Thank you so much.
