Simply Family Home Evening; Come, Follow Me FHE Lessons: Mar 4-10 “Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole”

Has spring sprung you where you are? Things starting to turn green yet? Here on the farm it's my favorite thing to see the hay starting to green up again. New life. That same new life we can get from being healed by our Savior. I am so excited to read about faith and some of the Savior's miracles this week. The title for this week's lesson in Come, Follow Me is "Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole." We will be studying Matthew 8-9 and Mark 2-5. It may be the biggest block of scripture we've had in one week up until this point. I'm excited about it because there are such great stories this week that I want my kids to learn about! We're excited to hear your ideas on how you will approach this week and how Simply Family Home Evening is most useful in your families!

As has become our habit, our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 3rd in the afternoon. Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the primary manual.

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
Jesus has the power to perform miracles
Simply Family Home Evening; Come, Follow Me FHE Lessons: Mar 4-10 “Thy Faith Hath Made Thee Whole”
Preparation: A flashlight without batteries. (Keep the batteries close by but hidden)
Google search clip art depicting the roles of the Priesthood. We've linked to some google search suggestions but some of these are just ideas of how a priesthood holder could serve in this capacity. You can of course do your own search for something you may think describes the role better:
-Blessings (Priesthood blessing)
-Share the Gospel (Missionaries)
-Preside (Bishop)
-Rescue (ambulance)
-Protect/Strong (muscles)
-Teach (Jesus teaching)
-Courageous (Captain Moroni) -Administer the Sacrament
-Ordinances (Baptism)
Aronic Priesthood Quiz
Opening Song: "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus" Children's Songbook pg 57
Lesson:
Watch the videos, either New Testament Stories or Bible Videos; read the scripture references or use a mix of both.
New Testament Stories
Chapter 22: The Man with the Evil Spirits
Chapter 23: The Man Who Could Not Walk
Chapter 24: Jairus' Daughter is Raised From the Dead
Chapter 25: A Woman Touches Jesus' Clothes
Bible Video
Jesus Forgives Sins and Heals a Man Stricken with Palsy
Jesus Heals a Woman of Faith
Jesus Raises the Daughter of Jairus
Scripture Reference
     Matthew 8-9Mark 25

After watching some of these videos about the miracles that Jesus performed, talk about how Jesus used the Priesthood to do these things. Talk about how the boys in our family will grow up and hold the Priesthood when they are of age and worthy. (Maybe some of the boys in your family already do!) Dad/grandpa/uncles/our home teachers (whatever fits your family) hold(s) the Priesthood and can bless our family with it.

Get out the flashlight
What is a flashlight used for? (to show us and others walking with us the way to go, help us stay safe in the dark)
Have someone turn the flashlight on to see how it works. When it doesn't come on, examine it, why isn't it working?
It isn't working because it needs power - produce the batteries.
Put them in the flashlight and have someone turn it on. Now that the flashlight has power, we can use it to guide and protect us.
Heavenly Father has great power. He wants us to use it to guide and protect us, it can help show us the way and make our lives better.
The batteries in the flashlight are like the power of God, the PRIESTHOOD! When the Priesthood is used properly, as directed by Heavenly Father, by worthy men in the Church, we can all receive blessings. Blessings that will help us return back to Heavenly Father.

If you want to take it a step further you can also talk about the roles of the Priesthood:

Use the pictures you cut out and talk about each role of the Priesthood.
-Blessings
-Share the Gospel
-Preside
-Provide

-Protect
-Strong
-Teach
-Courageous -Administer the Sacrament
-Ordinances
