As has become our habit, our plan this week is to watch the Bible Videos that go with this block of scripture on Sunday the 24th in the afternoon. Often in our family we use the Bible Videos and New Testament stories because they hold the little kids' attention well. Some of our children are very young and don't read yet. We try to make sure the kids understand on their level what happened in the video we watched. It also gives us a good foundation for what we will be discussing in our lessons during the week. In order to make sure we are still teaching from the scriptures as well, we use the excerpts from the scriptures that are suggested in the primary manual.
If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
Preparation: You will need some clip art images. You will need enough fish and loaves for each kid to have a couple. Do a search for:
Fish
Bread
Basket (depending on how many loaves and fishes you have you will need one or two)
You can also use our Cricut files for loaves, fish and baskets
Scriptures:
Matthew 14:13-21
Videos:
Bible Video: The Feeding of the 5,000
New Testament Stories: Chapter 28: Jesus Feeds 5,000 People
Lesson:
Watch the videos; read the scriptures or use a combination of both.
Talk about how Jesus wanted to be alone. He often went into the wilderness or a mountain to have some peace and time with Heavenly Father. The people wanted so badly to be with and learn from Jesus that they followed Him. He showed kindness to the people by letting them continue to be near him.
Use the loaves and fishes. Write on them the ways that we can be kind to others and place them in the baskets. Explain how kindness multiplies, when someone sees us being kind they are likely to pass that kindness on. Soon everyone's baskets will be filled!
Activity Ideas:
Pick an act of kindness you discussed and make plans to perform that kindness this week.

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:
Faith in Jesus Christ can help us not be afraid
Preparation: Print off the Primary Handout for this week's lesson (one for you - and have it made up and ready to use, and then one for each kid to make their own)
You will need Popsicle sticks to make the handout.
Scriptures:
Matthew 14:22-33
Videos:
New Testament Stories: Chapter 29: Jesus Walks on the Water
Bible Video: Wherefore Didst Thou Doubt?
Lesson:
Watch the videos; read the scriptures or use a combination of both.
Talk about something that one or more of your children are afraid of (for example, the dark). Talk about how our faith in Jesus can help us to not be afraid!
Activity Ideas:
Color, cut out and make the primary handout.
Our small offerings can make a difference
John 6:5-14
Lesson:
Read the scriptures and then get out the puzzle. As you get to the last piece and it's missing ask the kids how the puzzle looks. Is it complete? Talk about how each piece of the puzzle is important. We need all of them to make the whole picture. If any single one is missing it just isn't finished and whole.
Tell the kids that each one of us is like a puzzle piece. We all have a very important role in our family, in our Primary and school classes and in Heavenly Father's Plan. Talk about some of the strengths and talents each of the kids have. What would we do without them?
Give one of the kids the last piece and have them put it in the puzzle. How does it look now? Aren't we so glad for each person in our family, in our Primary and Sunday School classes and school classes?
Jesus Christ knows what we need and can help us
Preparation: None for this lesson
Scriptures:
John 5:1-9
Videos:
New Testament Stories: Chapter 27: Doing His Father's Work
Bible Videos: Jesus Heals a Lame Man on the Sabbath
Children's Bible Videos: Jesus Heals a Man on the Sabbath
Lesson:
Watch the videos; read the scriptures or use a combination of both.
Discuss what we can learn from these videos. I particularity love the Children's Bible Video for this one because their explanations are just so sweet and set up an environment where I can continue that discussion with my kids.
