General Conference Activity Ideas Round-Up

I don't know about you but I look forward to General Conference like I do Thanksgiving and Christmas. (My personal favorites of all the holidays) I love the Spirit that comes into my home. I love being rejuvenated by the word of God as our leaders speak. I love having church in my jammies!

The struggle is real though when you so desperately just want to listen to Conference and you have little people that just are not old enough to listen and sit still for 8 hours of church. It's not their fault! Any other time I would be so angry at myself for letting the TV take priority over my kids and they already know that. They know they come first so why not during General Conference? Why can't I talk and play with them?

Well we've had some discussions over the years and as they have gotten older they understand why General Conference is so important but still - the whole 8 hours of Sacrament meeting type meetings is a little more then they can be expected to handle.
So if you're in the same boat this post is for you! We've hooked up with some fabulous bloggers and brought you some of our favorite ideas as we've scoured Pinterest. We tried to get a good range of activities for young to older children and we hope some of these ideas will help you. - Oh did we mention that all of them are FREE?!

I love this as an attention activity from Bicycles and Typewriters. As you listen and catch the subjects the speakers are speaking about the kids get to fill the different buckets. It's so cute and would be a great activity to help see the big topics covered at the end of Conference. Check out her post for all the details!

We have a couple different Conference Bingo games we came across. This one from Chicken Scratch n Sniff is great for all ages and she even has suggestions of different ways that you can play it! I love the pictures of the General Authorities instead of their names. And it's even updated with the newest members of the Quorum of the Twelve and ready to play! It's just so pretty!

This is our contribution to this fun collection of ideas. I've seen versions of this on a few different blogs like The Things I Love Most, Craft Critters, and Little Family Fun check them out for other variations and ideas.
You will start out with 15 containers or bags, each with a picture of a member of the First Presidency or Quorum of the Twelve on the outside. They are all prepared in advance with coloring pages, puzzles, treats, other activities etc. inside the bags. (Hint: pretty much all the ideas we've linked to in this post can be used in these bags.)
When the speaker whose image is taped to the outside of that container or bag speaks, the kids get to open it and use what is inside. We have had a lot of fun with this in our family the last couple years. We have some photo cards that have information about that General Authority on it available here on our site. If you print them out they make great cards for the front of your containers and also give the older children who can read something to look at and study as they listen to the speaker.

Maeser Art has an amazing General Conference packet! It is seriously awesome and is a great, all weekend long, solution to busy hands. I love that it is a great solution for all ages. It is so packed with ideas that you could even print off certain pages for certain kids based on their ages and interests. I think I'm going to print one off for me and my husband too! You have to check it out!

Fab N Free has the other General Conference Bingo we found and I love this one too. If you have older kids and you don't want to mess with all the other activities that they may not be interested in but you do want them to pay attention this one is so simple and perfect for that in my opinion. No frills but challenging and engaging.

(waiting to hear back)

This fun idea from Latter-Day Lane is a game you would be able to play either for one session or for the full weekend depending on how ambitious you and your kids are. Haha! It is so simple but I love how it keeps the attention on the words being spoken!

This is probably a better activity for between sessions or before Conference but I love knowing more about our leaders and I wanted to suggest it. I feel like we can love them more fully when we get to know who they are as people. My older primary kids will remember things and start to make connections, "Mom that's the guy who..." and then suddenly they want to listen for a few more minutes. This collection of videos can be found on the Church's website. There is a video for almost every member of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. I'm hoping the others will be added so we'll have one for each of them!

Bonus!
Did you know that all the pages of The Friend Magazine can be printed off from the Church's website? It's awesome! March's issue has this cute coloring page for General Conference.
