Come, Follow Me May 4-10: Mosiah 11-17

Come, Follow Me May 27-June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"

Welcome to Simply Family Home Evening! If you have just found us - welcome! Here at Simply Family Home Evening we have taken all of our lesson ideas from the Come, Follow Me Primary manual to help you teach your children in your home. We are so excited that you are here and we hope something that we provide will be helpful to you!

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: May 27 - June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"

This week the lesson title in Come, Follow Me is "The Son of Man Shall Come" and we will be studying from Joseph Smith - Matthew for the first time this year! In addition, we will study Matthew 25; Mark 12-13 and Luke 21. We will be talking about the Second Coming of the Savior and some of the parables relating to that. I'm excited for this week. I love helping my kids learn more about the Second Coming and how to prepare for it because developing and growing our testimonies gives us a strong foundation in the Gospel that we can build on for our entire life! Let's get into it!

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
Before Jesus comes again, the gospel will be preached

 in all the world

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: May 27 - June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"
Preparation: Print out or have available this lesson from
Print and cut out this handout.
Prepare a name tag for each person, but don’t add names. Instead put qualities that make a good missionary (like Sister Cheerful or Elder Humble.) We have a cricut file for those that have one (Elder or Sister), or a printable file for those that don't.
Have a new book of Mormon for your family or for each child.
Have paper ready to make bookmarks.
Ask your family to come to FHE dressed as a missionary should be (Boys in white shirts and ties and girls in skirts or dresses.)
Have someone come over or be prepared to have your or your husband share some experiences from your mission(s).
Opening Song: I Want to be a Missionary Now” Children’s Songbook pg 168
Have mom, dad, a grandparent, uncle, aunt, cousin or other returned missionary you know talk about their mission. Where they went, what language they spoke, and some experiences they remember.
Have each child pick a name tag.
Talk about each quality and talk about how that quality would help you be a good missionary.
Have each child commit to developing the quality on their name tag. Have them keep the name tag where they can see it to remind them. Tape any remaining name tags up around the room.
Have the kids each take turns finding one and talk about other ways to help prepare for missions.
Adapt for older children: Practice being a missionary! Get a blank book of Mormon for each child or one for the family. Help them or have them write their testimony in the inside cover. Ask the kids to pray for the opportunity to give someone that copy of The Book of Mormon.
Make a bookmark with a couple of your favorite scriptures on it.
Activity Ideas:
Make the treat together to help your future missionaries learn how to cook!

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

I can use the gifts God has given me

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: May 27 - June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"

Preparation: Get some chocolate coins or print out some coins or use coins you already have (I knew this lesson was coming and I saw some chocolate and plastic coins at St. Patrick's time, so I bought them and saved them! You can usually find them at party stores or I've seen them in the wedding section at Walmart from time to time.) Have enough to act out the story of the talents.
Scriptures: Matthew 25:14–30
Bible Video:
     “The Parable of the Talents
New Testament Stories
     Chapter 48: "The Talents"
Watch one or both of the videos. Then, as you read the story of the talents, have your kids act it out. Matthew 25:14–30 Get all the coins back.
Let the kids pick as many or as few as they want. The word talents has a couple different meanings. Explain that in Jesus’s day talents were money. Now we use the word "talents" to describe things we are either naturally good at or have worked hard to become good at.
For each talent your kid picked, have them name or tell them a talent or gift they have. Pick one and talk about how they can use that gift God has given them to serve Heavenly Father.
Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: May 27 - June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"
Activity Ideas:
Hide the coins and go on a scavenger hunt!

Jesus wants me to serve others

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: May 27 - June 2 "The Son of Man Shall Come"
Preparation: Get a picture of someone you love that's big enough to hide a picture of Jesus behind it.
Scriptures: Matthew 25:31–46
Bible Video:
“Ye Have Done it Unto Me
     “The Greatest Commandment
Read the scriptures; watch the videos or use a combination of both.
Read Matthew 25:45
Hold up a picture of someone your kids know. Hide a picture of Jesus behind it. Ask them ways they can serve or help this person. Then show them the hidden picture of Jesus. Tell the kids that when they are nice or mean to other people, they are being nice or mean to Jesus.

Activity Ideas:
Do the primary handout

I am responsible for my own conversion to the gospel

Preparation: Print out or cut out an oil lamp and drops of oil
Scriptures: Matthew 25:1–13
Bible Video:
     “The Ten Virgins
New Testament Stories
     Chapter 47: The Ten Virgins"
Watch the videos; read the scriptures or use a combination of both. On each drop of oil list ways that we can prepare for the second coming (read my scriptures, gain a testimony, be a missionary etc.) Write your kids’ answers on the drops of oil and put them in or near the lamp.
Tell your kids how important it is for them to gain their own testimonies, and not to rely on other’s testimonies. Use the Bee”lieve” activity from Dec 31 lesson to practice or learn how to bare their testimonies.
