Come, Follow Me July 15-21: The Word of God Grew and Multiplied

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: July 15-21 "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"

Hey, welcome back! How is your summer going? I am so glad you have come back to check in with us at Simply Family Home Evening this week. If you are new and have just found us - welcome! I hope you find some value in what we have to offer you this week.

This week's lesson in Come, Follow Me is awesome! I love talking with my kids about Heavenly Father's love for us and we get to dive into that this week. The lesson title is "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied" and we'll be studying Acts 10-15. Peter receives a revelation that the Gospel is to be preached to the Gentiles. All of Heavenly Father's children are important to him! We also get to talk with our kids about what it means to be a Christian, what a Christian is and why we as members of the Church of Jesus Christ in these last days are Christians. Let's get going! Scroll down just a smidge and you'll see all the Simply Family Home Evening Lesson ideas we have for you this week.

{Note for those who are familiar with our lesson layout. We have moved all the video, scripture and General Authority message links to the end of our posts. We hope this helps declutter the posts a bit for those who just want to get to the lesson ideas without losing those quick reference links.}

If this is your first time here, make sure to check out THIS POST which will give you an overview of the layout for our lessons.

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: July 15-21 "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"

July 15-21
Acts 10-15
"The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
"God is no Respecter of Persons"
Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: July 15-21 "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"
Preparation: Print out or have pictures of children from all over the world (the Gospel Art Book has some variety in the Gospel in Action section) and a picture of the Savior.
Scriptures: Acts 10:34-3515:6-11
Bible Video:
Peter's Revelation to take the Gospel to the Gentiles
Additional Video:
I Am a Child of God
Read the scriptures.
Put pictures up around the room of kids from all over the world. Have a picture of the Savior in the middle of the room.
Have your kids find the pictures and bring them to the picture of the Savior.
Ask your kids if they know any of these kids. Ask them if Heavenly Father and Jesus know any of these kids. Heavenly Father and Jesus love every single person on earth. No one is more important than someone else in their eyes. They all deserve to hear the Gospel and that is why Peter was told to preach the Gospel to all men and it is why we share the Gospel and send missionaries all over the world today. We are all Heavenly Father's Children and he wants us to learn about His Son and come home to Him.
Watch the I Am a Child of God video.
Activity Ideas:
It's summer! Go enjoy an outing or activity with your family.
Go for a drive with the windows down
Go bowling
Play a game

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

I am a Christian because I believe in and follow Jesus Christ
Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: July 15-21 "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"

Preparation: Print out our I "Bee"lieve activity if you don't already have a set from a previous lesson. You can find all the links for the images in our first lesson in this post.
Scriptures: Acts 11:26
     True Christianity
Read Acts 11:26 and explain to your kids that because we believe in and follow Jesus Christ and try to live our lives by the example he set, we are Christians.
Have them practice their testimonies with the I "Bee"lieve activity.
Lay out all the pictures on the floor and using the bee to touch each picture have the kids explain why they believe in that gospel principle. (For more information on how to use the activity visit this post with our very first lesson.)
Activity Ideas:
Use a microphone or just a fake stand in like a flashlight, and have the kids practice their testimonies one at a time. If they can do it without prompting encourage them to bear their testimonies at your next fast and testimony meeting or in primary depending on how your ward structures children's testimonies.

Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers
Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: July 15-21 "The Word of God Grew and Multiplied"
Preparation: None
Scriptures: Acts 12:1-17
There is actually a Living Scriptures video that depicts the story of Peter being freed from Prison. I only mention it because I know we have some followers that have the videos and/or subscribe to their streaming service (we are not affiliated with Living Scriptures in any way) Sadly there isn't a Bible Video from The Church for this story. It's a really powerful example of prayer and if you have access to the video it could help if your children learn visually.
Read Acts 12:1-17 and have the kids act out the story. Ask your kids: Do you think the Christians just prayed for Peter at night when they went to bed? Did they just pray for him when they blessed their food? What do you think it means to "pray without ceasing?"
Talk about how Heavenly Father really does hear and answer our prayers. But if we really need something we need to make sure Heavenly Father knows it is important to us. If it really is important to us then we would pray for what we need every time we pray and even during the day when we think about it. Bear your testimony of a time that you received an answer to prayer.
Adapt for older children:
Do any of them feel there was a time when they received an answer to a prayer? Maybe help guide them along if you know of an experience they've had that they maybe forgot about to help them recognize when they have received an answer to prayer.
Activity Ideas:
Make a fun dessert together for your family to enjoy.

Let us know what worked for your family this week. We want to know how it went! Feel free to comment below, or show us how it's going using #simplyfamilyhomeevening on social media. You can also tag us in your photos on Instagram and Facebook. We'd love to see you there!
