Happy day! It's time for another week of Simply Family Home Evening lesson ideas for Come, Follow Me New Testament. WELCOME! We are so happy you are here. Hopefully you have come back because you found some useful ideas here before. Or maybe it is your first time here - WELCOME! Simply Family Home Evening is a place where we try to give you quick, easy and simple ideas to teach Come, Follow Me during your family home evening lessons.

This week the lesson title in Come, Follow Me is "God Loveth a Cheerful Giver" and we are finishing up 2 Corinthians. Some of the Simply Family Home Evening lesson ideas we have for this week focus on the opportunity we have to give to people in need and also how Heavenly Father answers our prayers but that He won't give us everything we ask for. Two really great topics that kind of piggy back on some other lessons we've had earlier in the year. I'm excited to dive deeper into these with my kids.

Don't forget if you scroll past our lesson ideas we always categorize some quick links for you. If you're just looking for videos, General Conference talks or scriptures we link to all of them here so you can find everything quickly. We hope you enjoy the Simply Family Home Evening lesson ideas for this week!

Simply Family Home Evening Lesson Plan

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
I can cheerfully give to people in need

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 16-22 "God Loveth a Cheerful Giver"
Preparation: Print out the smiling/frowning face (we used it in the April 22 lesson so you may already have one if you saved it) Print out a primary handout for each child.
Opening Song: "When We're Helping," Children's Songbook, 198
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 9:6–9
     Welfare Facilities—Bishops’ Storehouse
     The Labor of His Hands
     Thanks Be to God
Fast Offerings: Are We Not All Beggars
Read 2 Corinthians 9:6–7 repeat the phrase “God loveth a cheerful giver” in 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Sing the song “Smiles” (Children’s Songbook, 267). Have your kids turn the faces around to match the words in the song.
Talk about how it is always better to perform service with a smile and have a good attitude about it. Heavenly Father loves a “Cheerful giver!”
Sing “When We’re Helping” (Children’s Songbook, 198) together in a cheerful voice. Then have each kid take a turn choosing how they want to sing it, (Angry, sad, excited, etc.)
Talk about someone they know that is need of some service and go do it cheerfully!
Adapt for older kids: Watch some or all of the videos listed above and talk about what they learned or understand from the videos.

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

Heavenly Father always answers prayers, but He doesn't always give me everything I ask for

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 16-22 "God Loveth a Cheerful Giver"

Preparation: Have a picture of, or a plant with thorns on it. Have this story from The Friend.
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 12:7–10
Read the scripture.
Show the kids a picture of, or an actual plant with thorns. Ask them what it would feel like to have a thorn stuck in their thumb for a long time.
Tell them that Paul was comparing a thorn in the skin to a trial, something challenging in your life, a physical weakness, not being able to do something you want to do or maybe having a pet die.
Talk to your kids about how even though Heavenly Father may not always give us what we pray for, Heavenly Father always hears us and always does what He knows is best for us. Sometimes that means that we have to live through the trials and challenges that we have. Through our trials we can learn to have more faith and make our weaknesses stronger.
Read the story from the friend.
