Hello friend! Welcome back to Simply Family Home Evening! Do you love it here? I am so glad! You must because here you are again! New around here? WELCOME! I am so glad that you have found us! I hope you find something you love to help you teach Come, Follow Me to the little people in your life! With any luck, we will turn you into a return visitor very soon!
This week in our Come, Follow Me study we are finishing up 1 Corinthians and the lesson title is "God is not the Author of Confusion, but of Peace." I'm excited to talk to my kids about baptisms for the dead and the resurrection! It's such a wonderful week. Let's get to it! Scroll down just a bit and you'll be right in the middle of all of Simply Family Home Evening's Come, Follow Me lesson ideas for this week. Enjoy!
September 2-8
1 Corinthians 14-16
"God is not the Author of Confusion, but of Peace"
1 Corinthians 14-16
"God is not the Author of Confusion, but of Peace"
The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
Preparation: Have a hair comb.
Have your Primary manual handy or print off the picture of the baptismal font.
Have a copy of your kids' family tree already filled out (Family Search is a great place to get one).
Opening Song: “I Love To See The Temple” Children’s Songbook pg 95
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:29
Videos:
Glad Tidings: The History of Baptisms for the Dead
Lesson:
Watch the video
Give one of your kids a comb. Ask them to comb their hair without bending their arm. After they each have tried, ask them how they would comb their hair every morning if they couldn’t bend their arms. (they would have someone else do it for them)
Have the kids read John 3:5
Ask them “If we have to be baptized to live in the Celestial Kingdom, what happens to people that never get the chance to be baptized?
Talk to your kids about how the year they turn 12, they will get the chance to go into the temple to do baptisms for the dead for the first time. (Show the picture of the baptismal font from the primary manual)
Pull out your kids' family tree. Talk about how we can find our own ancestors that haven’t had their work done for them. We can find them, and then take their names to the temple and do the work for them.

Activity Ideas:
Do your own family history. Make a time capsule! Make one
to open in a year, a decade, or to be found by someone else. Use this website
to help you decide how to make a physical time capsule
Or you can get on family search and record your answers
to the questions there and save them under each of your kids profiles to listen to
whenever you want! Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:
Heavenly Father wants me to live with Him in the celestial kingdom
Preparation: Print off a copy of the primary handout and use a family picture in the center of the Celestial Kingdom. (4x6) fit well. I glued the picture in the center and then laminated the pictures of each of the kingdoms and added magnets to match the rest of the Plan of Salvation set from LDS Lane. You may already have a set from a previous lesson.
If you don't, print off and color the Plan of Salvation pieces. You can see more about how we used them before by checking out the Jan 21 lesson.
Print off plain copies of The Family Proclamation
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:40–41
Read 1 Corinthians 15:40–41
Use the primary handout to show the difference of the 3 kingdoms.
Use the Plan of Salvation lesson from Jan 21, but
replace the 3 kingdoms with the pictures from the primary handout. Review the
Plan of Salvation and emphasize that Heavenly Father and Jesus live in the
Celestial Kingdom and They want us to live there with Them and our families.
Adapt
for older kids: Use Doctrine and Covenants 76:50–53, 70;
76:71–79;
76:81–82 and
have them identify the differences in the kingdoms.
Review the Family Proclamation with your family. Take the printed copies of The Family Proclamation and color pictures over the words you want to remember or the ones that talk about love or draw a picture of your family over the whole thing. If you use colored pencils you can still see the words. - We would LOVE to see your pictures, share them with us on Facebook or Instagram. tag us on FB or IG @simplyfamilyhomeevening or use the hashtag #simplyfamilyhomeevening on IG, we'll be looking for them!I can prepare to go to the temple to be baptized for the dead
Preparation: Use the lesson "I can be baptized for people who died" from above, but adapt it for older children. Have the family tree ready for them to look at.
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:12–13, 20–22, 29
Lesson:
Talk about ways the children can prepare to enter the
temple. Use this talk from President Nelson to help you.
