Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 30 - Oct 13 "For the Perfecting of the Saints"

Hello lovely friend! I am so glad that you are here checking out what Simply Family Home Evening has for your Come, Follow Me study for this coming week! This week the lesson title is "For the Perfecting of the Saints." What a GREAT lesson title for the week! Especially since this lesson runs over General Conference. Right? If you're like me there is no other time where I feel more motivated to be the best disciple of Christ I can be then Conference weekend. It's so fitting!

We are studying Ephesians this week and there are a lot of great topics. AND because it's Conference week you have two weeks to cover everything! It's a great time to dive in deep on a topic or go back and spend some more time on another lesson that you didn't have time to cover. For us, I'm particularly excited to talk about the armor of God with my kids! What are you excited to talk about?

Well no reason to waste time messing around up here, scroll down just a bit and dive into the Simply Family Home Evening lesson ideas that await you!

Simply Family Home Evening Lesson Plan

The lesson idea we decided to focus on for Family Home Evening this week is:
The armor of God can protect me

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 30 - Oct 13 "For the Perfecting of the Saints"
Preparation: Print and cut out the primary handout or have pieces of "armor" for you kids to put on. Print off this article from The Friend or this one from The New Era. They're both about the pieces of armor. Choose the one that will best explain them to your kids.
Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10–18
Opening Song: Scripture Power
Videos:
Bible Video:
     “Armour of God”
Lesson:
Have a picture of a person in armor.
Either take the pieces of armor from the primary handout and put them around the room, or use the things you're going to have your kids put on to represent armor and put them around the room. Have your kids go find a picture or piece of armor and use The Friend or
The New Era article to talk about what each piece of armor protects and how we can put on this part of the armor of God.
Activity Ideas:
All dressed up in your armor (real or imaginary) play soldiers together!

Additional Lesson or Discussion Ideas:

Heavenly Father wants me to obey my parents

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 30 - Oct 13 "For the Perfecting of the Saints"

Preparation: Get a box and put in it things that protect us (coat, umbrella, boots, etc.)
Scriptures: Ephesians 6:1–3
Lesson:
Read Ephesians 6:1–3
Get out your box and have the kids tell you what each of these things protects us against.
Once you have gone over everything in the box, ask you kids why they think Heavenly Father blessed them with parents. (To help protect them and teach them the gospel.)
Have your kids list ways they can show love to you as their parents and to Heavenly Father (by being obedient, kind, helpful, etc.). Write their answers down on hearts and hang them up for the week.
Activity Ideas:
Play reporters. Have your kids get to know you a little better. Fill out these questionnaires together.

We are fellow citizens in the household of God

Come, Follow Me; Simply Family Home Evening FHE lessons: Sep 30 - Oct 13 "For the Perfecting of the Saints"
Preparation: Print out or have pictures of children from all over the world
Scriptures: Ephesians 2:13–19
Videos:
Bible Video:
     “Ye Are No More Strangers”
     “Unity of the Faith”
Lesson:
Read the scriptures; watch the videos or use a combination of both.
Put pictures up around the room of kids from all over the world. Have a picture of the Savior in the middle of the room.
Have your kids find the pictures and bring them to the picture of the Savior.
Ask your kids if they know any of these kids. Explain how when we are baptized into the church, we all become fellow citizens. Even if we don’t know other members in the church, we all have our love for the Savior in common.
Adapt for older children: Talk about why it is important to be friends in your ward. Ask them if there is anyone in the ward that they feel doesn’t come because the feel like a stranger in the ward. Talk about ways we can make everyone feel loved and like a fellow citizen in the church.
