Come, Follow Me Dec 30 - Jan 5: Introductory Pages of the Book of Mormon
Hello again our friends! We are so happy to see you here!
Before we jump to the lesson, if you're familiar with our lessons - well even if you are brand new, there are a few changes to the layout of our lessons this year that we want to make you aware of. First of all, the posts will be much shorter. Only one lesson will be laid out for you here on the blog. We know there are a lot of you that like the other lesson ideas as well and if that is you then you are in luck because they are still included in the lesson plan that you can print off.
Second, we've color coded a few things. We decided to include the discussion topics from the Individual and Families manual as well as the Primary manual because they work so well together and we know so many only use the Individuals and Families manual. So, to help distinguish between the two we have color coded the references to the Primary manual in green and the Individual and Families manual is in orange. We have them all listed in the discussion topics section at the very bottom of each post and we also have them both listed with the lesson we've decided to focus on for the week.
We hope these changes will help in your study and the use of the blog so you can more easily see what we are referencing and that it will make it easier to use the lessons in your families. Thank you for your time spent here each week. It means more to us then you know.

Opening Song: "Book of Mormon Stories." pg 118 Children's Songbook
Scriptures: “The testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith”
Lesson:
Show the video “How we got the Book of Mormon” from the Book of Mormon Stories or watch the beginning clips from the Joseph Smith movie.
Have the kids retell the story of the first vision using the figures you printed out.
Show the picture in the primary manual of what the written Book of Mormon characters looked like.
The Book of Mormon was translated “by the gift and power of God.” We don’t know many details about the miraculous translation process, but we do know that Joseph Smith was a seer, aided by instruments that God had prepared: two transparent stones called the Urim and Thummim and another stone called a seer stone. Joseph saw in these stones the English interpretation of the characters on the plates, and he read the translation aloud while a scribe recorded it. Each of Joseph’s scribes testified that God’s power was manifest in the translation of this sacred work.
For more information, look up “The Translation of the Book of Mormon” in Gospel Topics on the Church's website.
Activity Ideas:
Build some towers with blocks (maybe demonstrate a key stone in an arch if you have blocks that line up correctly) or play Jenga
